New Year’s Resolutions for Your HVAC System

While you often make New Year’s resolutions to take care of yourself, you should also be taking care of others. One of the things you need to care for is your HVAC system so it can continue to take care of you. Here are some things that you should resolve for the New Year.

1. Change Your Air Filter

When your air filter is dirty and clogged, it will impact the efficiency of your system. Not only will your heating and electric bills be higher, but your system will not work as well as it should. Changing the air filter will help relieve some of the strain on your HVAC system and keep it working well.

2. Get a Routine Checkup

Sometimes, big problems are little issues that are not diagnosed in time. Routine maintenance can keep your HVAC system working and can prevent small issues from getting worse over time. Make sure that you resolve to perform all recommended maintenance on your system and periodically have a professional check the health of your system.

3. Test Your Air Conditioner

While you may not be thinking of needing your air conditioner right after the New Year’s, you also do not want to be stuck with a malfunctioning system when the seasons begin to change. Even in the winter months, you should resolve to periodically check to make sure that the air conditioner part of your HVAC system is still working properly.

4. Clean the Outdoor Unit

Leaves and other debris on the outdoor unit of your HVAC system can cause damage to it. This is especially true right after the fall when the leaves are in abundance. A proper HVAC health resolution will involve periodically checking for outdoor debris and cleaning it. You can do this either by hand or by using a wet/dry vacuum. This debris will not only make your system have to work harder but can impact the quality of air in your home.
